Anger: The Mosquito Bite of the Emotions

Anger is like a mosquito bite.
When you scratch a mosquito bite, it becomes more irritated and the urge to scratch it increases exponentially. The same is true with anger. When you give in to anger and lash out, it only makes you angrier. The more you react, the more you fuel the anger.
On the other hand, if you manage to resist the initial urge to scratch, you'll overcome it very quickly.
The same is true with anger. If you can resist the urge to react in the moment, the anger will subside on its own. It may take a few minutes or even a few hours, but eventually the anger will pass.
So, the next time you feel angry, try to resist the urge to react.
Take a few deep breaths and count to ten. Remind yourself that giving in to anger will only make things worse. Once you've calmed down, you can deal with the situation in a more rational and productive way.
